The Yoga & the instructor
Yoga
In your Yoga Prana Shakti class, you will stay on course, cultivating spirit and mind while working on the physical body, all in a compassionate and non-judgmental way. Each class brings awareness to Prana, cultivating and honoring the same. All students will be guided to better understand the details of physical alignment and the coordination of breath while moving in and out of postures. With a sense of playfulness and exploration, each student on their individual level will work on improving flexibility, strength, stamina, body awareness and function of the entire body. There will be a mix of Vinyasa and held asanas. Breathing and relaxation techniques will be used to calm the mind and reduce stress and raise prana. Each class is different it depends on who shows up for class, as I will take that in consideration and let that inspire the class. We always set personal positive intensions. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti.
Corperate Office Yoga / Workday Yoga
I am also offering Coorperate Yoga, to be set up by your worksplace. Similar to Chair Yoga but ususally a shorter class of 25 min. enough to give you a well deserved movement break and a mental recharge.
All you need is a chair without armrests and a place to join the class sent live over an online platform. The practice is designed to suit as many as possible. It could be called Chair Yoga, Desk Yoga, Office Yoga or Workday Yoga – it will offer you a change in your routine workday movements. Please contact me if you are interested in knowing more.
Chair Yoga
Not everyone can get up and down off of the floor easily making traditional yoga classes difficult. If you have physical limitation or a health issue this might be the ideal class for you. With the help of a chair most people can practice yoga and reaping the benefits of increased circulation, balance, flexibility, mobility, strength and more. We spend a fair amount of the time exercising in a seated position in the chairs but if possible, we also do exercises standing, using the chairs for support. The exercises can be adjusted for individual needs and we move at a comfortable pace. I think will soon notice a difference once you start. Looking forward to seeing you in class!
Meditation
When I offer my meditation workshops, they would have a focus or a theme like; Guided Chakra Meditation, Prana Yama & Mediation, Breath meditation, Moving into Meditation, to mention a few workshops. I love to offer guided meditations. These meditations are often intuitively improvised. I trust the Divine and I speak what will be most helpful in each moment. I sometimes do a series of workshops where I teach the basics of meditation and we might talk about how to start up a practice, what works for different individuals and what does not suit every personality, different techniques or how to take it to another level if you get stuck. Every regular class also has some moments of meditation as part of the class practice and sometimes when I feel the need for it i will guide a longer section of guided meditation and they will be different each time.
Pranayama
Every class allows you to tune into your breath and we practice various pranayamas. A few times a year I offer workshops or master classes with specific topics related to Meditation or Pranayama. Keep a lookout for that. And if you in the meantime need personal coaching or guidance related to pranayama, I would be happy to schedule a private session with you. The meaning of Pranayama can be described in two ways, to try to make it simple (even if it really is not that simple), but I would start out by saying that most commonly yogis refer to it as "breath control" and yes you are doing something to your breath with all these different breath exercises. In this definition one has used the word Prana to mean breath and Yama means rein in or control...and in that way, it becomes breath control. However, the word Prana actually means vital life force, the energy that is in all living things and maybe elsewhere too, it surrounds us and is especially strong in healthy living organisms, like ourselves, in animals in nature around us and in the food we eat and so on. Now if you then take the ending word of pranayama, but take it from - ayama, that word instead means the opposite of Yama, it means to free up. So, you are freeing up your prana instead of controlling your breath. I really like this take on the word, as I think this is just what happens - you are controlling the breath to raise to level of prana and then you free it up. Both translations work and they are together taking care of describing both the action and the result. I think it is the most wonderful thing when you free up prana whether through Pranayama or if your prana gets free up from you Asana practice. In my practice and in my classes I do try to inspire and encourage the awareness on prana and welcoming it and indeed freeing it up, playing with it.A few Breathing techniques (or pranayamas) that I often use in class are; Dirgha breath, Ujjayi, Kapalabhati, Bhastrika, Nadi shodhana, Kumbhaka (breath retention both internal and external). If you are new to Yoga and pranayama, you might be more comfortable learning these techniques in a one on one session and you might grasp it quicker that way. I would be happy to help you get a little more familiar with some basic pranayama before joining a class. But all beginners are very welcome to any of my classes.
Shivasana
Deep Relaxation / Yoga Nidra
Shivasana – often considered the favorite pose and part of a class. At the end of any of my 75 minute class there is time to practice Shivasana where you simply rest and move into deep relaxation. The way I guide that is often like a shorter Yoga Nidra and I verbally lead you into relaxation. Shivasana can sometimes be practiced just in silence allowing for rest. However, most of the time I use the components of a Yoga Nidra practice to help my students maximize a deeper tuning inward and letting go. I also sometimes offer separate Yoga Nidra sessions, keep a look out for that. But let me here explain what Yoga Nidra is, a little more in detail here. It is a wonderful and beneficial practice. You will be guided into deep relaxation moving through different levels of consciousness as in sleep however you are awake the whole time. A 30/45/60 minute journey could be as restorative as 3 hours of sleep and the benefits are deep and important. When you receive a truly restful state you enhance functioning of the immune and metabolic systems. It creates deep relaxation for health, mental peace, and higher awareness. This practice improves your overall physical health and ability to fight off colds and infections and thus giving you access to more energy in general. This kind of rest also works on improving our mental health, helping with brain fog, insomnia, anxiety attacks, PTSD, and depression.
